Elements of Art Design

elements1.jpg

First Row-

Left: This photo demonstrates the element of line, as represented by the crack in the sidewalk.

Right: The very defined outline of the light bulb creates shape.

Second Row-

Left: The silhouette of the roses creates an abstract shape, displaying the element form.

Center: The shadows and highlights on the face as well as the darkness of the jacket and hair and the lightness of the soft background creates value.

Right: A sense of depth is given by the difference in focus and size of each pot, creating the element space.

Third Row-

Left: The sharp appearance of the cactus spines is a good example of the element texture.

Right: Many different contrasting colors are displayed by the feathers on the bird.

Principles of Art Design

elements2.jpg

First Row-

Left: This photo demonstrates balance, as represented by the three symmetrically arranged and centered flower pots.

Right: Because the colors and textures in this photo are similar and compliment each other, it demonstrates the element harmony.

Second Row-

Left: The background of this photo is simple and repetitive, thus emphasizing the flower with its different color, texture, and shape.

Center: The consecutive lines on the ladders, and their negative space (the shadows) demonstrate rhythm.

Right: The comparison of the sun in the horizon and the water bottle gives a feel for proportion.

Third Row-

Left: The soft blue color of the pool and the striking pink of the flower create color contrast.

Right: This photo demonstrates unity because of the well balanced colors and the coming together of all the blossoms at the center of the picture.

Fourth Row-

Left: Motion is clearly displayed by the blur in the background and the movement of the arms.

Right: Each panel of the walls consists of a different color and/or texture, demonstrating variety.
